NRA Basic CCW

with Larry Akins

$195

NRA Basic CCW teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry a concealed pistol for personal protection.

Description

This course includes both classroom and range time learning to safely draw and shoot a semi-automatic pistol or revolver.  The course will cover mindset, decision-making under pressure, and planning for the worst with additional scenarios and training meant to facilitate self-defense outside your home, business or workplace, or any public venue where firearm possession is not prohibited by law.

The course will teach carry modes and concealment along with presenting the pistol from concealment.  Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for safety and responding to a violent confrontation, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.

To be successful in this course, you will need:

  • A quality pistol appropriate for concealed carry, recommended minimum of 9mm or .38special
  • A quality strong-side hip holster, inside or outside the waistband design, constructed of leather or kydex, form-fitted for the pistol or revolver being used and having a rigid mouth, and must cover the trigger and trigger guard area
  • A quality belt, constructed of stiff material and preferrably designed for carrying a holster and a firearm
  • 200 rounds of quality ammunition - see additional details below
  • Spare magazines or speed loaders with appropriate pouches - at least 2 additional (total of 3)
  • Clothing appropriate for concealed carry (concealment garment)
  • Eye and hearing protection

Students should expect to shoot around 200 rounds of ammunition.  Ammunition must be factory-loaded, no handloads.  Additionally, Lafayette Gun Club does not permit steel core, steel jacket, armor-piercing, or tracer ammunition.  Wolf, TulAmmo, and Brown Bear, Silver Bear, and Golden Bear ammunition are all steel jacketed which is prohibited on LGC's indoor range and therefore prohibited for this course.

Course Prerequisites

NRA Basic CCW is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, & local law.

NRA Basic CCW builds upon fundamental safety and marksmanship learned in introductory courses like NRA Basic Pistol or LGC Fundamental Pistol training.  New firearm owners should first attend an NRA Basic Pistol course or LGC Fundamental Pistol Training course and reinforce those skills with regular practice.

To maximize what can be learned from this course, NRA Basic CCW participants must be experienced shooters, able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, loading and unloading, shooting a group, and cleaning the firearm.

This is not an introductory firearms course and requires experience with safe loading, unloading, and firing of your firearm.  Violation of safe firearm handling rules will result in dismissal from the course.
